Dr Ambrish Mithal
Dr. Ambrish Mithal is presently the Chairman and Head of Endocrinology and Diabetes division at Medanta, the Medicity where he has established one of India’s premier diabetes and endocrinology centres.
Dr. Mithal was the first DM in Endocrinology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (1987), and subsequently served on the faculty at Sanjay Gandhi PGI, Lucknow (1988-1998) where he was instrumental in setting up the Department of Endocrinology. Subsequently he worked as a Senior Consultant at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, where he established DNB (endocrinology) training program. He has a number of publications to his credit.
Dr. Mithal is immediate Past President, Endocrine Society of India and the Chairperson, Bone and Joint Decade, India. He is the founder, Past President and currently Chief Advisor to the Indian Society Bone and Mineral Research (ISBMR).
He chairs the Nutrition Working Group of the Committee of Scientific Advisors, and has recently been elected Chairperson of the Asia Pacific Advisory Council of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF, Switzerland). He is recipient of a number of awards and orations, and has been recently decorated with “Padma Bhushan”, one of the highest civilian awards, by Govt of India.
Padma Shri Dr. V. Mohan
Dr. V. Mohan is the Chairman and Chief of Diabetology at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre at Chennai in South India which is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Noncommunicable Diseases Prevention and Control and IDF Centre of Excellence in Diabetes
Care. He is also President and Director of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation which is an ICMR Centre for Advanced Research on Diabetes.
A student of Madras Medical College, Dr. Mohan was awarded the Dr. R.V. Rajam Gold Medal for standing first in the University of Madras in M.D. (General Medicine).
Deeply interested in research from his undergraduate medical student days, Dr. Mohan has published over 1150 papers in peer reviewed journals including 720 original articles, 241 review articles and invited editorials and 151 chapters to text-books on Diabetes and Internal Medicine. His work has received over 54,000 citations and has a h index of 110.
Dr. Mohan has received over 170 awards including the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India and the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Centenary Award from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the highest award for Biomedical research in India. Recently he has been conferred the prestigious Dr. Harold Rifkin Distinguished International Service in the Cause of Diabetes Award by the American Diabetes Association for his pioneering work in the field of diabetes and he is the first Indian to receive this award.
Dr. Mohan also provides life long free treatment to thousands of poor patients through the free diabetic clinics established by him and has conducted over 3000 free diabetes camps including several along with the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization.
For his extensive contribution in the field of diabetes, Dr. Mohan was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri, from the Govt. of India in 2012.
